As the holidays approach, so do monumental triggers that send us spiraling into sadness. Traditions of our holidays can trigger comfort and sadness, in the same moment.
In this episode, I offer my personal experience of walking through the holidays as a griever. Christmas jingles did not find their way onto my playlist or radio dial for up to four years. Still, today, an aching heart and torrential tears will be triggered by the simplest of tunes or cheeriness of others, specifically as Christmas approaches.
While we don’t celebrate for the same reason or the same way, we all celebrate something as we cherish life, hope, peace, happiness and being with those whom we love. As a griever you will find more than 15 ways to make it through the upcoming holidays and in one piece. With some help from Amy Morin, LCSW and her article, Grieving through the Holidays , I offer you practical ways to make it through whatever holiday you happen to be celebrating.
And for our non-grievers, you will find specific examples of how you can help your grieving family member or friend. There will be no reason for you to say, “what can I do for my friend this holiday season?” after listening to this episode. Taking notes is recommended.
Stay safe, healthy and shine a light on peace!
