Real Grief – Real Healing with Mindy Corporon #8 | Galvanizing Deaths

When your family is on the news involved in a white supremacy murder, $%@! Just got real. My older brother, Will Corporon is my guest in Galvanizing Deaths.

His Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma allowed him a career in broadcast journalism prior to moving into entrepreneurism with a high end men’s clothing boutique and now operates Corporon Insurance & Financial Services from his home (literally) in Bentonville, Arkansas.

He and his wife, Heather, thoroughly enjoy the chaos, challenges and breadth of love from their six (6) children Travis, Allie, Hanna, Sam, Maggie and Oliva.

Will tapped into his unique knowledge and experience from the newsroom when he heard that his father, nephew and a third victim were murdered by a white supremacist in Overland Park, KS, April 2014.

As his trajectory of life took a significant shove, Will discusses how he walked with the grief while continuing to live his life, for others and himself. He offers insight on living in the eye of the hurricane, knowing that hate can happen to anyone and finding the purpose to move onward.

We talk a little “COVID-19 living” in his home and chuckle at our pragmatic father, too.

My friends, I pray you are safe, healthy, washing your hands and wearing your masks in public. We are all vulnerable, we can all choose love.

Funeral for William L Corporon, MD and Reat Griffin Underwood, murdered on April 13, 2014

On Friday, April 18, 2014, the lives of Dr. William Lewis Corporon and Reat Griffin Underwood (Losen) were celebrated at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. Dr. Corporon was a well-loved physician who practiced family medicine in Oklahoma before moving to Johnson County to be closer to his grandchildren. He cherished his family, and more than anything had a passion for caring for others. He was a loved physician, father, grandfather and friend. Reat was a remarkable young man, full of life and gifted in so many ways. A 14-year-old freshman at Blue Valley High School, Reat participated in debate, theatre and had a beautiful voice. This memorial service offers a message of comfort and hope to a grieving community and reminds us that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
